Skincare Consultation in Kingston upon Thames: What to Expect

You can book a skincare consultation in Kingston upon Thames at Lumiderm Skin Clinic by calling or messaging 07845 253259, or by using our contact page. The consultation is free, takes around 30 minutes, and happens in clinic at 5 Crown Passage, Suite 2, Kingston upon Thames, KT1 1JD.

If you have been searching for a skincare appointment in Kingston and are not sure which treatment you actually need, the consultation is the right place to start. You do not have to arrive knowing whether you want microneedling, a peel or an injectable. Working that out is our job.

This guide explains exactly what happens, what we look at, what it costs, and how to get the most out of the appointment.

What Is a Skincare Consultation?

A skincare consultation is a dedicated appointment where a practitioner assesses your skin, listens to what is bothering you, and builds a treatment plan around it. No treatment is carried out during the consultation itself.

It covers four things:

  • An honest assessment of your current skin condition
  • Your medical history and anything that affects suitability
  • A recommended treatment or course, with realistic timescales
  • Home care and product guidance to support the results

The point is not to sell you the most expensive option. It is to work out the shortest route to the result you want, which sometimes means telling you that a cheaper treatment, or none at all, is the right answer for now.

How to Book a Skincare Appointment in Kingston

There are three ways to book:

  1. Call or text 07845 253259, which is the fastest option
  2. Email [email protected]
  3. Use the contact page and we will come back to you

We are open Monday to Saturday, 10:00 to 18:00, with flexible appointment times including evenings and weekends where possible. Clients travel to us from Kingston upon Thames, Surbiton, New Malden, Richmond, Teddington and Wimbledon.

What Happens During Your Consultation

The appointment follows the same five stages every time, so you always know where you are up to.

Stage 1: Welcome and Medical History

We start with a short health questionnaire. This covers medication, allergies, previous treatments, pregnancy or breastfeeding, skin conditions such as eczema or psoriasis, and any history of keloid scarring. Some of these rule certain treatments out, which is why it comes first rather than last.

Stage 2: Skin Analysis

Your skin is cleansed and assessed under good light. We look at hydration, barrier strength, oil levels, pigmentation, pore size, texture, scarring, redness and signs of sun damage. Skin type and skin condition are two different things, and most people are surprised by at least one finding here.

Stage 3: Your Goals and Budget

We ask what you want to change, how quickly you want to see it, and what you are comfortable spending. Being open about budget genuinely helps, because a three session course of one treatment often beats a single session of something more expensive.

Stage 4: Your Treatment Plan

You leave with a written plan: which treatment, how many sessions, how far apart, and what each stage should achieve. If more than one treatment suits you, we explain the trade off rather than just naming a favourite.

Stage 5: Products and Aftercare

Finally we cover home care. In clinic treatments do roughly half the work and your daily routine does the rest, so this part is not an afterthought.

What We Assess, and What It Usually Points To

Different concerns lead to different treatments. This table shows the usual starting points, though your plan always depends on what the skin analysis actually finds.

Prices above are the single session starting prices from our pricing page and are correct at the time of writing. Course bookings are discounted, typically 20 per cent off three sessions and 30 per cent off six on the treatments where a six session course is offered.

Skincare Product Guidance Is Included

Product advice is part of the consultation at no extra cost, and for some clients it is the most valuable part.

We will tell you:

  • Which products in your current routine are helping
  • Which ones are irritating your skin or cancelling each other out
  • The order to apply things in, and when to use actives
  • What to pause before and after a treatment

If You Have Sensitive Skin

Sensitive skin is where product advice matters most, because the usual advice to layer strong actives is often the exact thing causing the problem. We normally strip a reactive routine back to a gentle cleanser, a simple barrier repair moisturiser and a daily SPF, then reintroduce actives slowly once the barrier has settled.

We do not push a single product line. The right routine depends on your barrier, your budget and what you will realistically keep doing.

How Long Does It Take, and Is It Free?

QuestionAnswer
How long is the consultation?Around 30 minutes
What does it cost?Free
Is treatment done on the day?No, it is assessment and planning only
Do I need to commit to anything? No
Can I have a patch test?Yes, if your plan needs one

Keeping the consultation separate from treatment is deliberate. It means the advice you get is not shaped by what can be fitted into the remaining appointment time.

How to Prepare for Your Appointment

Five things make the appointment far more useful:

  1. Come with little or no makeup, so the skin can be assessed properly
  2. Photograph your current products or bring them with you
  3. Know your medication, including anything topical such as retinoids
  4. Avoid strong actives and sun exposure for a few days beforehand
  5. Think about your timeline, especially if you have an event coming up

If you have a wedding, holiday or milestone in mind, say so at the start. Most treatment courses need two to three months to show their full effect, so the date changes the plan.

Questions Worth Asking Any Clinic

A consultation goes both ways. Before committing to any treatment, the NHS guidance on cosmetic procedures ↗ is a sensible place to start, and it is reasonable to ask:

  • Who is carrying out the treatment, and what are their qualifications?
  • What exactly is being used, and is it a medical grade device or product?
  • What are the realistic results, and what will it not fix?
  • What are the risks, and what happens if something goes wrong?
  • What aftercare and follow up is included?

You can also check whether a practitioner appears on a recognised register such as the Joint Council for Cosmetic Practitioners ↗. Any clinic worth booking will welcome these questions rather than rush past them.

Frequently Asked Questions

Where can I book a skincare consultation in Kingston?

At Lumiderm Skin Clinic, 5 Crown Passage, Suite 2, Kingston upon Thames, KT1 1JD. Call or message 07845 253259, email [email protected], or use the contact page.

Is the skincare consultation free?

Yes. The consultation is free and there is no obligation to book a treatment afterwards.

Do I need a consultation before every treatment?

No. You need one before starting a new treatment, and we review your plan as you go. Once you are on an agreed course you can book sessions directly.

Can I have a treatment on the same day as my consultation?

Usually not. Some treatments need a patch test or a short preparation period first, and keeping the two appointments separate means you have time to consider the plan.

What if I do not know which treatment I want?

That is the most common situation, and it is exactly what the consultation is for. You describe the problem, we recommend the route.

Will you tell me if a treatment is not right for me?

Yes. If your skin is not suitable, or if better skincare would get you most of the way there, we will say so. Treating skin that is not ready wastes your money and risks the result.
